Tickets to see Hairspray, the hip new musical adaptation of John Waters' 1988 film, have hit Broadway in a flurry of 1960's hair, music and dancing! Set in Baltimore, Maryland, where Waters' has made film history, the musical follows Tracy Turnblad, a girl with big hair and a bigger heart with dreams of making it big on the local TV dance program.

Hairspray was released to great fanfare in 2002 in Seattle, Washington before moving to Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre on 52nd Street. The original Broadway cast sports Marissa Jaret Winokur as Tracy Turnblad, Harvey Fierstein as Edna Turnblad, Kerry Butler as Penny Pingleton, and Matthew Morrison as Link Larkin.

Hairspray was nominated for multiple Tony Awards in 2003 and won for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score (Music & Lyrics), Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical (Harvey Fierstein), Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical (Marissa Jaret Winokur), Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical (Dick Latessa), Best Costume Design, and Best Direction of a Musical.
